Choose the Right Product

Most jobs require only a FertiGator M1 (AR-1M), single injector with an 8-zone controller and perhaps an additional 8-zone controller. However, for more complex jobs, multiple application rates and products you might need a little help in designing a customer's system. We've come up with a chart and a spreadsheet to help you determine what FertiGator product you should install. But, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel to call Pedro Pereira at 0219752648 (International call +27219752648) and he can help you design your system.

The Chart
The chart below will help you determine what FertiGator product you need for your system. The size of the property is not relevant. System design determines what FertiGator product is right for your property.

-
The "Design Precipitation Rate" for the system is the amount of water applied over the course of a week through the sprinkler system during no rainfall. This is measured in inches per week. If you don't know, assume it is 3 for this purpose.
-
The "Fertiliser Application Rate" is determined from the package directions. Use 24 ounces per 1,000 square feet per month for FertiGrow fertilisers for this purpose.

How to Use This Chart
If, for example, you know that the system will put out about 3 inches of water in a week in periods of low rainfall and you will put the fertiliser out at 24 ounces per 1,000 square feet per month, the basic AR-1M Kit is appropriate so long as the GPM flow rates are less than 27. Remember, the size of the property does not matter. If the GPMs are between 27 and 55, then two injectors are required. You need either an M1 Dual (2 single injectors) or an M2 (one double injector).

The FertiGator Spreadsheet
FertiGator has designed a simple EXCEL spreadsheet which will automatically calculate the proper settings and the proper pulse period for the system and the fertiliser being used. It will also tell you how many injectors you need as you enter the information for your system. This should be included in your Contractor Success Package and should be included in every kit. If not, please contact us at 877-337-8442 ext. 9 and we will mail or email the spreadsheet.

To determine the proper pulse settings and pulse period you will need the following:

-
The total acreage of the yard and an estimate of the percent that is irrigated. The program will figure out the number of irrigated acres.
-
The gallons per minute flow rate for each zone (enter in space 1.) If you wish, you can enter the GPM for each head and the program will figure out the gpms for each zone.
-
The number of times the property is watered per week (from the sprinkler system timer.)
-
The number of minutes each zone is on during each watering (from the sprinkler system timer.)
-
Number of ounces of lawn care product per 1,000 square feet of property to be applied per month (per package directions).

The spreadsheet will help you set the initial settings for each zone. After that the controller can easily be adjusted to the property owner's taste.

Multiple Injector Systems

Occasionally when designing a system the chart or disc will indicate that more than one injector is required. When using the spreadsheet simply click on the "Large commercial" tab at the bottom of the page and enter all of the same information that you entered on the "Residential" spreadsheet. After you enter the information using 1 injector, the program will tell you the minimum number of injectors required for that system design. Compare this to what the above chart suggests for your design. We suggest using one or two injectors above the minimum to increase flexibility.
